"There is no disease or condition of companion animals that takes as many of their lives as euthanasia", Janet M. Scarlett, DVM, Associate Professor Of Epidemiology at Cornell University. ABOUT SPAY-NEUTER LEAGUE INC.Our HistoryThe League began November 16, 1978. Spay-Neuter League Inc. is a charitable group run entirely by a small group of volunteers. We offer a limited number of $30 coupons each month to help offset the cost of spaying and neutering pets with local veterinarians. Since we are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, all donations are tax deductible. We receive no government funding. Marie Wilkinson, 80, of Terre Haute died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20, 2007, in Union Hospital. She was laid to rest in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Marie was a charter member of Spay-Neuter League Inc. since the very beginning on November 16, 1978. She continued her strong and steady support, acting as board president for years. Her generosity and kind-hearted nature was an inspiration to those who knew her. Many will miss this pillar of our community. To donate in her memory, please use the following link. TerreHauteSpayNeuter.orgA simple Spay-Neuter League website existed around 2001-2002 at www.terrehautespayneuter.org. It was created and maintained by one of the Spay-Neuter League's board members. For much of 2002-2003, the Spay-Neuter League website was offline and the domain name was no longer reserved. In January 11, 2004, a volunteer bought the domain name TerreHauteSpayNeuter.org, contracted business-class hosting, and recreated this website to help promote the Spay-Neuter League Inc. This website is still designed and maintained by the same volunteer at no cost to Spay-Neuter League Inc. Terre Haute Pets ALIVE Spay-Neuter TransportIn February 2005 Spay-Neuter League agreed to sponsor the Pets ALIVE Spay-Neuter Clinic Transport in Terre Haute. With the strong support of Terre Haute's Mayor Burke and crucial assistance from Terre Haute Environmental Protection Division's Code Enforcers, the first Transport took place on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, 2005. These transports, which remain a cooperative effort of the City of Terre Haute, Spay-Neuter League Inc., Pets ALIVE Spay-Neuter Clinic, the Terre Haute Pets ALIVE Spay-Neuter Transport Coordinator and Volunteers, occur monthly and provide a low-cost spay-neuter service for area dogs and cats. See how many dogs and cats have participated in our local Transport program to the Pets ALIVE low-cost Spay-Neuter Clinic! Helping Hungry DogsIn July 2005 Spay-Neuter League and Terre Haute Humane Society received a large donation of dog food. Again with the approval of Terre Haute's Mayor Burke and promoted by Terre Haute Environmental Protection Division's Code Enforcers, the food was distributed weekly, free of charge, to people in need responsible for feeding dogs. The program was so popular that the supply, which was originally expected to last until September 2005, was exhausted by early August 2005. Spay-Neuter League Inc. received another generous donation of canned dog food, and the "Helping Hungry Dogs" program distributed it all in a one-day event on Saturday, September 30, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the corner of 14th & Poplar Streets in Terre Haute. Dog food was distributed in good faith at no charge to people who have a financial hardship in providing their dogs with good nutrition. The purpose of this program is to help our community take better care of their pets, which includes having their pet spayed or neutered. With the 2006 distribution, to help those who want to have their pet spayed or neutered but cannot afford it, Spay-Neuter League asked for a $1.00 donation for each flat of food a person or family received. Spay-Neuter League Petfinder.org ListingFor years, Spay-Neuter League members have helped place animals through occasional newspaper and television news advertisements. To keep up with the times and give animals more opportunities for adoption, Spay-Neuter League joined the Petfinder.org program in July 2005 to list adoptable animals online. Our MissionWe seek to promote responsible pet ownership and decrease the number of companion animals surrendered to shelters by providing information and access to low-cost spay-neuter and other animal welfare programs. Our goal is to help end the use of euthanasia as a method of pet population control.

These coupons are each worth $30 toward the spay or neuter of an animal. If you need a coupon to be able to afford to spay or neuter a dog or cat, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope along with a short letter about the animal the coupon is for (something personal--male or female, puppy or kitten, etc.), and put your name, address and phone number on the bottom of the letter. Send a picture if you have one. We have several albums now and enjoy sharing pet pictures and success stories. Our mailing address is: Coupons are mailed the first week of each month as our funds allow. If you requested a coupon and don't receive it the first week of the month, that means we don't have enough funding and will try to give you one the next month. As much as we would like to help every animal who needs us, the reality is that we simply do not have the funds. The email address listed throughout this website belongs to the Web Content Designer, who does not have access to the Coupons. For a variety of reasons, it is not feasible for Spay-Neuter League Inc. to accept coupon requests by email. The coupons are an agreement by Spay-Neuter League Inc. to reimburse veterinarians $30 toward the cost of spaying or neutering an animal. Since the coupons are not legal tender, it is the decision of each veterinarian whether to accept the coupons. Please check first with your veterinarian to see if Spay-Neuter League Inc. coupons are an accepted form of payment. Because Spay-Neuter League Inc. is a small non-profit run entirely by volunteers within Terre Haute, IN, veterinarians outside our community are not as likely to accept our coupons as local veterinarians. Also, since our coupons are completely funded by donations and are very limited, requests from within our community will be filled first. If you live outside of the Wabash Valley and within Indiana (or very near the borders), you may find a service nearer to your community in the listings on our home page. A more complete listing of services provided in Indiana can be found at the Indiana-Paw website. In addition to low-cost spay-neuter programs, they list low-cost vaccine clinics, after-hours pet emergency services and animal poison hotlines. Indiana Proactive Animal Welfare, Inc. is a comprehensive animal welfare education league. If you live outside of Indiana and need low-cost spay-neuter service, please visit the Pets 911 website and perform a search using your ZIP code. Pets 911 provides accurate, community specific information needed to encourage better care for pets in communities throughout the United States. CONTACT SPAY-NEUTER LEAGUE INC.
